The Create Centre

The Create Centre situated in the Cumberland Basin, near the Suspension Bridge at Smeaton Road, Bristol is a unique Environment Centre. Visitors are welcome in all public areas on the ground and first floor. It is open daily all the year round and has free entry. The Create Centre is owned and run by Bristol City Council and hosts its Sustainable Development Teams.

It houses over 20 voluntary organisations, charities, and small businesses. These groups all work in different areas including sustainable energy, recycling, eco-tourism, education and research, air and water, as well as wildlife conservation.

Life Skills Learning for Living occupies a complete floor with a series of realistic everyday sets including a street scene, home and garden, supermarket and countryside area. There are various hazards and safety scenarios designed to help children and other sectors of the community learn about safety in a practical way and in a safe environment.

The Recycling Exhibition takes you on a hands on journey through waste and recycling. The exhibition is available to schools and groups for environmental education.

The Ecohome built next to the Create Centre is a demonstration home full of ideas and information on eco-friendly construction and living. It is open between midday and 3.00pm although organised tours can also be arranged in advance outside these hours. There is free entry to the sustainable construction resource library.

The Create Centre runs an annual themed Events Diary that includes large public open days, lectures and talks, exhibitions and displays, workshops and tours. There are Conference Facilities and Meeting Rooms of varying sizes including a 70 seat auditorium and a large adaptable ground floor gallery for hire on a weekly basis. There are also refreshment facilities. The Create Cafe serves cooked breakfasts, hot lunches, snacks and drinks.
